Citizens Advice Cheshire West (CACW) has received funding from Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Crisis Resilience Fund to help support low income households who have suffered a ‘financial shock’

What do we mean by ‘financial shock’?

A financial shock is when something happens that suddenly makes it hard to afford essential living costs, for example:

  • a sudden loss of income or reduced working hours
  • an unexpected essential bill or cost
  • a delay or change to your benefits
  • illness, caring responsibilities, or a family emergency
  • urgent housing problems that put pressure on your finances
  • domestic violence situation

Our Crisis Support Fund will provide an ‘Advice First’ service supporting households in crisis by delivering:

  • Short-term financial support – to provide help for households to manage after a financial shock.
  • Medium to long-term outcomes – through advice on energy saving, income maximisation, debt management, and any other relevant information.

Support is focused on people who need it most, based on circumstances at the time. All applications will be assessed and processed individually based on need.

Whilst this fund is for helping people in crisis, we have limited resources and it is not an emergency fund. If you have an emergency please contact Cheshire West and Chester council.

Before you start your CACW online application

When you apply for help from our Crisis Support Fund, you will need:

  • Proof of address dated within last 3 months (e.g. utility bill, council tax bill, latest benefit award)
  • Evidence of your financial situation such as a recent bank statement showing at least 1 months transactions
  • Evidence of your crisis such as a dismissal letter, unexpected bill, delay in benefit payment notification

All applicants will be offered advice about their situation

Applications will be declined where there is not enough information provided to assess eligibility.
